Our denomination and our nation are at very critical moments, and we believe that the white-dominant progressive movement within the UMC must take recent and anticipated events as a reminder to ‘Keep awake’, as a wilderness call to self-reflection and spiritual reevaluation, especially as they relate to our complicity with white supremacy and racist structures. What does it mean to have racial justice as a part of our “progressive agenda” but to still be white-dominant in practice? Let’s open ourselves up to those kinds of questions together as we seek true confession, repentance, and repair in our movement.
-Rev. Vicki Flippin, Co-Chair, MFSA Board of Directors
MFSA Board of Directors and Program Council met at Allendale UMC last month for its annual joint meeting. Partnering with our host congregation and led by the General Commission on Religion and Race we engaged in a training entitled The In’s and Out’s of Resisting Racism. The workshop facilitated by Rev. Michelle Ledder staff of the General Commission on Religion and Race is designed for white dominant progressive justice-seeking faith communities. GCORR one of the United Methodist general agencies facilitates workshops like the one in local churches, annual conferences and with justice-seeking communities like MFSA. Contact GCORR and invite them to your community here.
